Jurres c1920.Johannes Hendricus Jurres was born in Leeuwarden in 1875, dying in 1946. He was a painter, draughtsman and illustrator, depicting religious subjects, figure compositions and genre scenes. He studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, where he became a Professor in 1921. He was awarded a Silver Medal at the Paris Salon of the Societé des Artistes Français in 1913. He also took part in exhibitions in St Louis, USA and the Panama-Pacific exhibitions held in San Francisco in 1915 and Venice in 1920. His work was influenced by Decamps, Diaz and Delacroix.His work is represented in the St Louis Museum.
